Then and now: Edgecliff Hospital
Edgecliff Sanitarium opened in 1915 to treat tuberculosis patients. Several additions were made throughout the years, and it  closed in 1978. A senior living facility called Park Place opened on the site in the 1990s.

This was the first building most saw at Edgecliff Sanitarium, also called Edgecliff Hospital, Spokane County’s tuberculosis hospital which opened in 1915 and is pictured here in 1938. The former medical director said at its busiest the complex held 210 patients and over the years the hospital cared for almost 10,000 patients with an average stay of three months. The hospital closed in 1978 and was renovated into a senior living community called Park Place in the early 1990s.

The hospital was opened in 1915 and several buildings were added over the years to care for people with tuberculosis. Today, the facility on Park Road, south of Appleway, is owned by Brookdale Senior Living.
