Wild Card/Monday -- 3.28.16 15 

Mrs. O and I were treated to an uplifting sight as we walked along the waterfront Saturday. On NIC beach, at the mouth of the Spokane River, we watched as a couple exchanged their vows in front of 20 to 25 witnesses. A simple wedding with a view worth millions. I hope they have as many happy and interesting years as Mrs. O and I have had.

Legislature delivers on low expectations 

Lewiston Tribune edit begins: "Look not to Charles Dickens to describe Idaho's just-adjourned legislative session. These were neither the best of times nor the worst. Look instead to Thomas Hobbes. This was 'nasty, brutish and short.'" The session was brutish for the 78,000 working poor Idahoans, sacrificed on the altar of GOP ideology.

Idaho population shifting to cities

Local News 8: Idaho's population is growing, especially in the state's urban areas, as people from the smaller counties are moving to those areas. The state's overall population increased 1.2 percent between July 2014 to July 2015. That increase was concentrated in six urban counties: Ada, Bannock, Bonneville, Canyon, Kootenai & Twin Falls.

In an editorial, the Idaho State Journal slams the Idaho Freedom Foundation for criticizing the 2016 for not improving government transparency and accountability. Truth be told, the Journal comments, Wayne Hoffman's IFF calls for the Legislature to walk lock-step with its Far Right agenda while hiding backers for its "non-profit" activities.

Man loses leg shooting lawn mower 15 

Gruesome video footage has surfaced showing the moment a Georgia daredevil lost his leg shooting a semiautomatic rifle at a lawn mower packed with several pounds of deadly explosives. David Pressley, 32, can be seen moving closer and closer to the explosive target as he peppers it with bullets. Moments later, the lawn mower suddenly explodes.

Guv blames Wasden for IEN mess 14 

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden’s staff told state officials that they could split the ill-fated Idaho Education Network broadband contract, Gov. Butch Otter said Monday. The decision to break the contract into two parts pushed the state into a legal quagmire that still plagues the state’s elected officials, seven years later.

No guns allowed for GOP convention 21 

The Secret Service says people attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July will not be allowed to carry guns. The statement comes in response to a petition that calls for allowing open carry of guns inside Quicken Loans Arena, the host venue. The petition has amassed more than 43,000 signatures as of Monday morning.

Otter mulls Bible-in-schools veto 

Asked whether he’ll sign a controversial bill “expressly permitting” the use of the Bible and other religious texts in schools – despite the Idaho Constitution’s strict prohibition of that – Otter said, “I’ve got advice on both sides." Otter said he hasn’t yet decided whether or not to sign the bill.

Idaho 3% leader files bankruptcy 21 

Three weeks after speaking to an Oregonian reporter during the Malheur Wildlife Refuge siege, near Burns, Ore., Brandon Curtiss, found of Three Percent of Idaho, filed for bankruptcy protection -- for the third time. Curtiss and his wife, Stephanie, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Feb. 3 in Boise.

Studded tire deadline Thursday 

Thursday is the deadline for drivers in Washington and Oregon to remove their studded tires. In Washington, driving with studded tires after Thursday could result in a $124 ticket. Oregon motorists could face a fine of nearly $200. Idaho's deadline for removing studded tires is April 30. (Q: When did you last run studs on your car for the winter?)

Idaho’s football program faces an uncertain future following last month’s decision by the Sun Belt conference to not grant membership to the Vandals beyond the 2017 season.
