... Sgt. Christie Wood answers Sparky's question in TGIF's comments section re: happened that caused Ramsey School to be shut down Friday.

At approximtely 1230pm a passerby in the area of Atlantic and Kathleen Ave oberved two male juveniles shooting what they believed to be a handgun near the Ramsey playground. The Ramsey children were at recess at the time. Woodland School Resource Officer (SRO) Officer Shiflett locked down Ramsey by telephone as he responded to the school with other patrol officers. They located the two boys who were actually shooting a soft air rifle aimed at their residence not the school. Ramsey was then released from lockdown. It lasted less then 10 minutes. The boys were truant from Lake City High. Their SRO Officer McCormick responded to the scene and notified their parents of the incident. Both boys are facing possible charges of discharging a firearm inside City limits. This is a City ordinance that does apply in this situation.
