After a summer hiatus, the Montana Grizzly football team returned to Missoula today to kick off the first day of fall camp. While the Missoula sun was sweltering, the offensive linemen hit the sled, receivers caught passes and the Grizzlies returned to practice for the first time since April. The practice featured individual skill group drills, special teams drills and seven-on-seven exercises before eventual 11-on-11 plays. The theme of the day: players are excited to get back on the field. Jace Lewis, Montana Junior Linebacker: “It’s good to be back. We had a great summer coming in. Coach Nicholson did a great job with us, I think we’re all ready to go. It’s kind of a revenge season for us, we’re all amped up. We’re all fired up to be out here today.” Cy Sirmon, Montana Senior Offensive Lineman: “Day one is always fast-paced. A lot of heat to deal with, it was a hot one today, but it’s just good to be back out with my friends. We’ve been working all summer and it’s good to be back out here in an official setting.” Samuel Akem, Montana Junior Wide Receiver: “It just feels good to be out here…all the time we put it in over the summer, over the spring, over the winter it just feels good to finally get out here and work.” Bobby Hauck, Montana Football Head Coach: “[There’s] two things that lend a positive and negative, and that’s probably effort and execution. The attitude and the effort ought to be a constant from every individual out here and starting with me, we’re in control of that. The execution part comes and goes so if you come out here and play hard and we execute well that means we’ve had a good practice.”
