Washington state man charged with stabbing Montana man on walking path

Associated Press

LIBBY, Mont. – A 24-year-old Washington state man is charged with stabbing a Montana man nearly a dozen times while the victim was on a walking path near Libby.

Michael Borchardt Robertson of Yakima, Washington, is charged with attempted deliberate homicide for the attack on Doug Crum of Libby on Nov. 11. Officials say Crum is in his 70s.

Robertson made an initial appearance in Lincoln County Justice Court on Tuesday and remains jailed with his bail set at $500,000. He was appointed a public defender.

The Western News reports Robertson is scheduled to enter a plea in District Court on Nov. 20.

Prosecutors say Crum was able to stop the attack using bear spray, drove home and then went to the local medical center before being flown to a Kalispell hospital for treatment of two collapsed lungs and other injuries.
