Woman mugged outside Safeway grocery store on South Hill

A woman required medical attention after she was mugged Sunday night outside a Safeway grocery store on the South Hill.

Police and paramedics responded to the store at 2509 E. 29th Ave. at about 8:30 p.m., said Officer Shane Phillips, a spokesman for the Spokane Police Department. No arrests have been made, and it’s not clear if there were multiple assailants.

“Unfortunately, different witnesses saw different things, so we don’t know how many people were involved,” Phillips said.

Phillips said the woman had multiple items stolen but wouldn’t say what they were, citing the ongoing investigation. He said available reports didn’t indicate whether she was taken to a hospital.
