Officials say deputy fatally shot armed carjacker in Spanaway

Associated Press

SPANAWAY, Wash. – Officials say an armed carjacker was shot and killed by a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy in Spanaway.

KOMO-TV reported that the incident began just before 5 a.m. Friday when deputies received a report of an armed man who had carjacked a neighbor.

Detective Ed Troyer says when deputies arrived, they found the car. It had crashed into a home and caught fire.

Troyer says the driver got out of the car, still armed, and was shot by a deputy.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Police are still investigating what led up to the carjacking and the shooting.
