Eagles look for 2-sport sweep of Montana schools
Eastern Washington sports made history Thursday night.
Now the Eagles have a chance at perfection against the state of Montana in their two highest-profile sports.
After a 79-50 basketball win at Montana State, the Eagles are 5 for 5 this season against MSU and Montana in football and men’s basketball.
A win today in Missoula would make the Eagles 6 for 6.
Until this year, Eastern had never won more than four of a possible six matchups in the two sports.
“It started with our football team, then we beat them both at home,” basketball coach Jim Hayford said. “The challenge was issued this week by (Eastern athletic director) Bill Chaves that maybe this could be the year we could go 6-0. What a great opportunity to go to Missoula and try to see if we can make history against the state of Montana.”
The Eagles football team won 42-37 at Montana and 54-29 over Montana State in Cheney.
Earlier this season, the Eagles basketball team beat Montana 69-62 and Montana State 77-72 at home.
