Zags lose special fan

Many Gonzaga fans have heard about 11-year-old Brandon Chastain, who survived two bouts with cancer before the disease returned for a third time. Extremely sad news to report that Brandon passed away at about 6:45 this morning.

He couldn't have fought the disease more courageously.

The team visited Brandon in November and he came to a GU practice in December after cancer had taken away his vision. Brandon liked to talk about "Star Wars" with Robert Sacre and he sat courtside for GU's Ronald McDonald's House Charities Classic, bumping fists with Elias Harris in pregame. Prior to the Gonzaga-LMU game, Brandon's mom, Jo Lynn, accepted a check for $681,000 on behalf of the American Cancer Society from Mark and Marcy Few's Coaches vs. Cancer event last summer. Jo Lynn hugged every player and coach before leaving the court.
