Northwest Passages Book Club heads into summer
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s “Pints & Politics” event Wednesday at the Montvale Events Center is sold out. So let that be a lesson: Northwest Passages Book Club Events are popular, grab tickets when they are released.
Here is what’s coming up right behind the AG’s event:
June 25: Northwest Passages hosts Peter Heller for a conversation about his latest release, “The River.” Heller is an award-winning adventure writer and a contributing editor at Outside magazine, Men’s Journal, and National Geographic Adventure, and a regular contributor to Bloomberg Businessweek. He is also the author of several books: “The Painter,” “The Dog Stars,” “Celine” and “Kook: What Surfing Taught Me About Love, Life And Catching The Perfect Wave.” The event is at 7 p.m. June 25 at the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. June 27: You can’t be in Spokane in June and not know about Hoopfest, so we are getting in on that action. The Northwest Passages Book Club will kick off Hoopfest with some of the Gonzaga Legends that made the school the basketball powerhouse it is today: Kelly Olynyk, Steven Gray, David Pendergraft and Heather Bowman. There will be a VIP reception at the River Rock Taphouse with a meet and greet before the event ($60/per ticket) and premium reserved seating at the Martin Woldson Theatre at The Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave. The event starts at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $6 at www.ticketswest.com.
July 11-13: Northwest Passages Book Club is going to cook up some fun in July with Crave in Spokane Valley.
On the Northwest Passages stage from 1 to 4 p.m. – during Crave’s Grand Tasting – you’ll be able to catch a sneak peek of Joanna James’ documentary, “A Fine Line,” which explores why fewer than 7% of head chefs and restaurant owners are women, despite the women traditionally holding a central role in the kitchen. It will be followed by a panel discussion with local and special guest chefs, including Anita Lo, who has appeared on “Top Chef Masters,” “Iron Chef America” and “Chopped.” Lo was also the first female guest chef to cook at the White House and has a cookbook out, “Solo.”
We’re lining up more guest chefs to educate and entertain you. Watch for more details coming soon.
In the evening, we’ll bring the chefs to the Bing. First we’ll watch the full documentary, then we’ll have a discussion about the issues faced by female chefs. The show starts at 7 p.m., with a cocktail hour and live music starting at 6 p.m.
